The Office of International Affairs of Chonnam National University (OIA) has selected 18 students out of the applicants for the Second Foreign Language Study Abroad Program (SFLSAP) on June 10th; seven students for French, six for German, and five for Chinese. No applicants for Japanese. This program will be operated in foreign universities in France, Germany and China during summer vacation. The training course lasts about four to eight weeks during July and August.

The chosen participants will have the opportunity to study a foreign language at an outstanding university in another country and to improve their language skills and competitive power. Oh Sem (Senior, Dept. of German Language and Literature), who was selected as the participant for last winter’s SFLSAP and was sent to Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf in Germany during the last winter vacation, said, “Four weeks is maybe too short for learning a second foreign language. So in order to make the best of it, you must prepare for your study abroad. Before I started my training program at the University of Duesseldolf, I learned basic German and studied the culture of Dusseldorf, Germany. The preparation helped me obtain an advanced level of German and also helped me understand the region’s culture.” She added, ”If you would like to participate in the program, you need to be outgoing. The more you interact with other international students, the more you will improve your language skills and have new experiences.”

The qualifications for the program are simple. First, the applicants must be Chonnam National University students who had registered for more than one semester according to the dispatch date. Second, the applicants have to be able to study for their last semester at CNU after finishing the program. More information can be obtained from related departments: the Department of German Language and Literature, the Department of French Language and Literature, the Department of Japanese Language and Literature, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature. This study abroad program will improve your language skills and inspire your self-esteem and make you more aware of your capabilities. It’s an opportunity that should not be missed.
